The Museum of Brands, Packaging, and Advertising

The next time you’re in London, in between trips to Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey, why not take a side trip and stroll down memory lane at The Museum of Brands, Packaging, and Advertising.

Featuring more than 12,000 original items from the Robert Opie Collection, the Museum of Brands, Packaging, and Advertising is a recent addition to the museums in London, located just off the famous Portobello Road in Notting Hill.

They’ve got everything – the worlds of toys, magazines, technology, travel, souvenirs, fashion, and design are all represented by iconic packages, posters, flyers, and more. It’s a veritable history of consumer culture, revealed though household products and shopping-cart favorites in a “time tunnel,” which takes you on a nostalgic journey from Victorian times to the present day. Discover how well-loved brands evolved through their creative use of packaging and advertising, and how society evolved with them.

From 1984 to 2001, the collection was housed in the Museum of Advertising and Packaging in Gloucester, England. In December 2005, the Museum moved to London and achieved charitable status in 2002.

Have a look at a few teaser photos here. And then feel free to pop in. They’re at 2 Colville Mews, Lonsdale Road, Notting Hill, London, W11 2AR. They’re open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 – 6, and Sunday, 11 – 5.
