Little Changes Can Back a Big Difference: Ghirardelli Gets Some Sweet New Packaging

ghirardelli train San FranciscoSometimes the smallest changes in packaging can have the biggest impact. Such is the case with Ghirardelli chocolate, which last week debuted its new chocolate bar branding.

The new packaging will now read SAVE ME, SAN FRANCISCO CHOCOLATE as a partnership with the popular band Train. (Save Me, San Francisco was the title of their album that spawned the hit “Hey Soul Sister.”) One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of SMSF chocolate will go to Family House San Francisco, a not-for-profit based in San Francisco that provides free housing to families whose seriously ill children are receiving treatment at University of California at San Francisco Benioff Children’s Hospital.

The really amazing thing is that, as you can see from the image, the change to the packaging is so subtle that it doesn’t disrupt the Ghirardelli brand — there’s no change to the logo or the image, for example — but it’s just enough to get people curious about the new campaign and help raise awareness.
