Spend 10 Minutes Every Day Reflecting on What Went Well

“Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has many — not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.” ~Charles Dickens

In this week’s installment of 30 30-Day Challenges You Can Start Now to Motivate Your Work and Life, inspired by Marc and Angel, our challenge to you is to take a few minutes at the end of every day to think about things that went well.

It’s human nature to dwell on our mistakes. But dwell on too many for too long and you soon find yourself in the habit of not only obsessing about the things that went wrong, but expecting things to go wrong in the future as well. It’s a recipe for a downward spiral that can affect all aspects of your life, and it’s very hard to shake.

So in this challenge, we want you to take a very few moments — only 10 minutes — to sit and think about the small victories you had, the things that went your way, and anything positive from throughout your day. Make sure to really reflect and count everything — you’ll probably be surprised by how much positivity there really is.

Hopefully this is one exercise that will last beyond the 30-day period. It’s important to give yourself credit and remember that even the worst days still have something positive in them. Good luck!
