Limit Yourself to 30 Minutes of TV a Day

“Television is a medium of entertainment which permits millions of people to listen to the same joke at the same time, and yet remain lonesome.” ~T. S. Eliot

In this week’s installment of 30 30-Day Challenges You Can Start Now to Motivate Your Work and Life, inspired by Marc and Angel, our challenge to you is to watch less than 30 minutes of TV every day.

Life isn’t happening in your living room. There’s no meaningful interaction between you and your television, no matter how much you love your favorite characters. To make lasting memories, grow as a person, and enjoy your life, you have to interact with the world. So turn off the TV and get outside! Take a walk, watch the changing seasons, meet a friend for coffee. Or curl up in a chair with a good book and a cup of tea and lose yourself in the story and the sensory experience the act of reading can bring.

Cutting out TV completely isn’t easy. After all, nobody wants to be left out of water cooler conversation. So pick a favorite show or two and watch one episode a day. Then hide your remote and pick up the phone, go for a drive, or take a class. You’ll suddenly discover loads of free time, and your world will become a richer place.
