Define One Long-Term Goal and Work on it Every Day

“A year from now, you may wish you had started today.” ~ Karen Lamb

In this week’s installment of 30 30-Day Challenges You Can Start Now to Motivate Your Work and Life, inspired by Marc and Angel, our challenge to you is to choose one long-term goal and work on it for one hour every day.

Long-term goals are often the hardest to define. How can any of us know where we’ll be in a year or five years, or what our priorities will be then? And in a world grown accustomed to instant gratification, people often don’t even bother looking beyond today, tomorrow, or the weekend.

But achieving a long-term goal can be extremely gratifying. Knowing that you worked really hard for something that required patience, persistence, and focus is a great feeling, and can motivate you to set more long-term goals for yourself.

The secret to long-term goals is to break them down into a series of smaller steps. This gives you a blueprint to follow and can make the journey seem less daunting. If you can break up that goal into daily pieces, as we’re challenging you to do for the next 30 days, it will be even easier.

This is one challenge that you might want to extend beyond 30 days, but start there and see where the journey takes you. Your long-term goal might not be as far off as you thought!
